A report shows that the progressive change Congress (CPC) BLOC may leave the party after a meeting between former President Muhammadu Buhari and the governors of all Progressive Congress (APC).
Naija News It was learned that the meeting in Kaduna on Monday was initially seen as conventional courtesy, but has since sparked deeper speculation about it.
According to the Daily Trust, the governor has reportedly sought intervention from Buhari to stop the party’s defection, especially by key members of the CPC BLOC.
The governor’s appeal was reportedly rooted in growing concerns about potential defection ahead of the 2027 election. The resolved CPC is a key group in APC that still has a high influence, and Buhari is seen as its central map.
There are concerns in the APC that the group’s withdrawal could cause disaster for the party nationwide.
Several former ministers who served in the Buhari cabinet are also finalizing plans to join the Social Democratic Party.
A source told the publication that the governor was concerned that Buhari’s lasting cult-like following rate in the north could become a major responsibility for the APC if he supports his CPC colleagues. They fear that his group vote could cause a catastrophic disaster for the party in 2027.
According to the gathering, the governor specifically urged Buhari to dissuade his CPC colleagues from leaving the APC.
However, the former president reportedly refused to make any such promise. In reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, he insisted that others must be allowed to make their own political choices, a principle he said he maintained throughout his political career.
