Former Kaduna Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai dismissed speculations from his recent visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari, urging critics and political opponents not to lose sleep at the meeting.
The visit also included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other prominent politicians who had extensive attention at Buhari’s residence in Kaduna, which some observers suggested was a move by opposition figures to form a unified front in future elections.
El-Rufai, who recently defected from All Progressive Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), clarified that the visit was not politically motivated. In an article shared on X, he described the party as rooted in faith and brotherhood. He wrote: “We added faithful prayers to the faithful prayers at the Yahaya Road Mosque and had a hearty lunch at the Buhari residence.”
He downplayed the political implication of the visit, saying, “By the way, our opponents should not lose sleep. It has nothing to do with politics. It has nothing to do with unity and brotherhood. And, since we are not politically relevant, we are just praying with our mentors and enjoying lunch.”

This visit was conducted a few days after the delegation of the ruling APC delegation.
