Senior advocates of Nigeria (SAN), femiurging the governments of Benue and the Plateau state to ban grazing to curb the ongoing killings.

Naija News Falana, the surviving Covid-19 and ASCAB (ASCAB) league chairman, reportedly announced this on Sunday, while expressing sympathy for the ongoing deaths in both states.

He urged Benue and the Prosecutor General of the Plateau to ensure that all suspicious killers comply with the provisions of the criminal law that apply to their state.

He said “It is time to ban the open grazing by Benue and the Plateau state governments.

“Without any further delays, the federal government should establish ranches in Benue, the plateau and other states and ban cattle movement in the federal capital region and all federal states.”

He recalled that during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Governors Forum in the North and South agreed to open grazing nationwide.

Farana said the federal government adopted ranches to curb violent conflict between herders and farmers by releasing 6.2 billion guilds to the Cassina state government.

He said “It is incredible that the U.S. security forces failed to defeat the futile gunmen in Benue and the Plateau State.

“We then call on other state governments to demand the same amount and for the same purposes, we call for deaf ears.”

Human rights lawyers praised Benue and the plateau government for establishing national security clothing in line with the example of former Ondo State governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

However, he said there are allegations that the safety clothing in both states is insufficient.

“Due to the emergency, agents of both security agencies should be well trained and fully motivated to eliminate dead merchants in both states.” He said.
