Court remands allegedly 17-year-old girl R3 in Lagos

The court in Lagos State for sex crimes and domestic violence in Ikeja ordered a custody of Adeshina Adeyemi, accused of R3 occupying a 17-year-old girl.

The defendant allegedly pedded twice on August 15, 2019 and February 22, 2024.

Under Nigerian law, the identity of the survivor (minor) has been retained to protect her privacy.

Adeyemi was also accused of beating the victim with a crutch, causing personal injury.

He faces two charges of filth and physical assault that allegedly violates Sections 137 and 173 of the Lagos State Criminal Code.

Article 137 criminalizes sexual intercourse with a minor and authorizes life imprisonment for conviction, while Article 173 provides that illegal assault is a felony sentenced to up to three years in prison.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

After his request, prosecutor’s attorney Inumidun Solarin demanded the defendant to be remanded in the correctional facility.

Solarin also informed the court that she intends to introduce five witnesses in the case and asks for a Yoruba interpreter.

Defense attorney Scholastica Nwogu had no objection, and Judge Rahman Oshodi ordered the defendant to be custody.
