The Nigerian Navy said that in the Majidun community in the western government area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, it has intercepted more than 1,300 bags of foreign cooked rice.
This is included in a statement by the Nigerian naval ship Beecroft.
Nigerian naval captain Beecroft and Maritime Component Commander, reportedly revealed this to reporters.
He said the seizure was conducted by the Awatse Operations team on Saturday, April 12, while conducting routine safety and anti-walking operations in its operations.
“Some vehicles suspected of participating in smuggling attempt to evade safety at their checkpoints, which requires a rapid pursuit of the AWATSE Quick Response Team (QRT) operations in accordance with the Joint Task Force’s Standard Operating Procedures,” the statement said.
“As there is no record of casualties, the operations performed on the maritime components of the AWATSE operation were carried out by commendable professionalism and restraint. The timely response of QRT and the successful interception of the cargo demonstrated the ongoing commitment of the maritime components of the AWATSE operation to assist the statutory legal representatives to plan operational activities within their area.
“1,306 bags of arrested smuggled foreign rice were handed over to the Nigerian Customs Service of the Western Ocean Command on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, in line with the standard procedures for coordinated arrests, detentions and prosecutions.”
