Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has petitioned the Inspector General (IGP) for alleged defamatory statements against the suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-uduaghan.

Bello’s lawyers asked Akpoti-uduaghan to withdraw her allegations of assassination and corruption or facing legal action.
Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello formally applied to the Inspector General (IGP) to seek prosecution of slanderous remarks made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-uduaghan at a political rally.
In a petition by his attorney, Na Abubakar, Belo asked Akpoti-uduaghan to be invited to provide evidence to support her allegations or face legal consequences to spread false and harmful information.
Akpoti-uduaghan claimed in a speech at a rally on April 1, 2025 that Bello was involved in the assassination of her.
She claimed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed Bello to initiate a recall and even fund the plot to kill her.
Bello’s lawyers called the reckless, false and inflammatory statements, urging police to act quickly to prevent further damage to the client’s reputation and ensure public order is maintained.

Bello’s legal team also sent a letter asking Akpoti-uduaghan to conduct a public withdrawal and apology within fourteen days.
Failure to comply will lead to further civil and criminal proceedings.
The petition emphasizes the importance of addressing such defamation actions to protect the integrity of public discourse and avoid disrupting peace.
