    • Peter Obi called on President Bola Tinubu to suspend his retreat in France and return home to address Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

    • Obi stressed that over 150 Nigerians died in the two weeks on the plateau, Zamfara and other regions, criticizing the lack of leadership in the crisis.

    • He stressed that getting life is the main responsibility of the government and urged Tinubu to “take responsibility” and resolve the situation urgently.

Labour’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi urged President Bola Tinubu to suspend his ongoing retreat in France and return to Nigeria to address the worsening insecurity.

In a statement shared through his 𝕏 account on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Obi expressed concern about the increasing number of killings and attacks across the country, noting that “there is obviously no governance.”

“In the two weeks you have left, more than 150 Nigerians have been killed, throughout Nigeria, especially in the plateau and in the Zamfara countries,” Obi said, adding that repeated explosions in the Niger Delta, the revival of the rebellion in Borno further emphasized a country in distress. He condemned the president’s absence, saying: “In all of this, the CEO of the disturbing company, Nigeria is retreating on the distant land of France.”

Obi stressed that the primary duty of any government is to protect the lives and property of its citizens. “I urge the President to quickly pause everything he did in France and rush home to solve these disturbing problems,” he said. Obi described the crisis as a test of leadership, concluding: “This is the new Nigeria the country seeks.”
