The leadership crisis in the Lagos State Capitol took another huge turn on Wednesday as the Lagos High Court voided Mudashiru Obasa’s impeachment, declaring his removal illegal and unconstitutional.
In the judgment, Justice Yetunde Pinheiro shelved all procedures and resolutions of the Parliament held on January 13, 2025, during which time Obasa was removed from the Speaker.
Obasa filed a lawsuit, filed a lawsuit, challenging his removal, named House Member, and Mojisola Meranda was appointed speaker as the defendant. The lawsuit was filed on February 12, 2025 through his attorney, Afarabi Fasanu (SAN), arguing that his removal was taken when he was reconciled in parliament, where he was abroad.
He further argued that the meeting he was deleted was convened illegally, lacking any legal powers or his office delegation as the Speaker’s delegation.
Obasa’s legal challenge is based on nine reasons, citing the 1999 Constitution (Amendment) and the permanent order of the Lagos State Capitol. He believes that due process was not followed during the improper process.
Prior to the ruling, Obasa unilaterally changed the Congress’s legal counsel in court, a decision that inspired 35 legal counsel who had earlier recognized his removal.
With the court’s ruling, Obasa was restored to the speaker and all decisions made during the controversial sitting posture were gradually faded.
