Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta sent a message to his players before clashing with Real Madrid’s key Champions League.
Espanyol confirmed at a pre-match press conference that the team’s goal was to win against Real Madrid before the match. According to him, playing defensive football doesn’t help his team’s mentality, but while the result of the first leg is what his players need, focus on winning the game.
He said
Tonight’s mentality is to win. This is the way we are more comfortable, and this is the way we play football better than our opponents”
Despite the injury Thomas Partey suffered with Brentford, Arteta’s first players were allowed to play after Thomas Partey travelled with the team. Club supporters will hope they can maintain momentum when Santiago Bernabeu faces Real Madrid.
Arsenal won the first leg 3-0 and they will hope the scoring line is enough to get them to the Champions League semi-finals.
