Ibadan University enrolls 4,215 students from over 22,000 applicants

Ibadan University (UI) has officially enrolled 4,215 students to take undergraduate courses in its 2024/2025 academic program.

The admission ceremony was held Wednesday at the University’s International Conference Center, with Vice President Professor Kayode Adebowale addressing freshmen, urging them to pursue excellence and to uphold the University’s legacy of integrity and discipline.

“Try to achieve excellence, show good character and discipline, take advantage of available opportunities, participate in community services, maintain integrity, and avoid plagiarism and exam misconduct,” he said.

Professor Adebowale provides insights on the admission process, describing the admitted students as “champions of champions”, focusing on the competitive nature of admission to the Nigerian Prime Minister’s University.

He revealed: “Nearly 22,000 candidates applied to the University of Ibadan through the Joint Admissions Committee (JAMB), including UTME and direct entry applicants from home and abroad.”

He further explained that 11,912 candidates met the required 200-point UTME threshold and sat in the university’s post-UTME screening.

“Of course, 7,017 candidates received 50% and more. Ultimately, 4,411 students were admitted through UTME, while 238 students were admitted through direct entry,” the vice principal said.
“Of course of an astonishing 22,000 applicants, only 4,215 have been cleared to become real students at the University of Ibadan.”

Prior to admission, the university hosted a two-day targeted program for new students focusing on role development, academic excellence, campus engagement and student safety.
