On Thursday, the High Court in Ado-Ekiti sentenced Owoeye Ojo, 51, to D3ATH, hanging with an attempted M8rder and armed robbery.
Ojo was arraigned in court on August 25, 2023 on charges of M8rder and armed robbery.
The charge reads that the defendant was robbed and attempted to murder a Funmilayo Adeyemi and Omolola Adesola on May 21, 2023, armed with guns, axes and knives.
According to the charges, the defendant and others robbed her handbag at the large Adeyemi that contained money and a cell phone worth N85,000.
Similarly, on May 12, 2023, at Ilokun of Ado Ekiti, the defendant and others were on her laptop, phone, flash drive and cash amount of N10,000 on Adesola.
These offences violate the offences of Sections 314, 312(2)(b), 241 and 312(a), Ekiti Criminal Code, 2021.
In the testimony before the court, one of the victims, Adesola Omolola, said: “I was in my house around 8:00 pm and I was about to go to bed, but one of my sons was outside. I was trying to lock the door from the back and realized that one from outside was pushed, I opened the door. I opened the door. My eldest son brought them into the room and they reported my valuables and total cash at the Oke ILA Police Department a week later.
To prove her case, prosecutor Florence Ajumobi called four witnesses and tendered a single barrel gun, on-site cartridges, defendant’s statements and photos of the victims as an exhibition, while defendant’s attorney Lawrence Fasanmi was an unnamed witness.
Judge Lekan Ogunmoye made the judgment, and the prosecutor said in court: “With credible evidence, the prosecutor determined the victim’s premise was robbery. The defendant was one of those suspected of armed robbery, and he reached a reasonable defense between him. Hang and may God have mercy on his soul.”
