
The Ekiti State Police Department has arrested a 65-year-old man identified as Olugbenga Akinola, allegedly awarding fake college certificates to students in the state.
Police Commissioner Joseph Eribo revealed this when addressing reporters at the headquarters of the state capital Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, April 17, 2025, saying the suspect and another person Sunday Adesanmi claimed to work with Kwara State University.
The CP notes that the suspect, widely known as “professors,” deceived many students for years by enrolling and obtaining a university degree, including a master’s degree.
According to him, a victim who visited the main campus of the institution in Kwara State was told that the certificate he was marching was fake and not issued by the university.
“Based on reliable intelligence received by detectives from the department on February 18, 2025, a group was found to be illegal, operating a Kwara State University learning center on Ado-Ekiti, where several bachelor’s and master’s degrees were issued to the unquestioned public,” CP said. ”
“They both accomplice to deceive some students and issue fake certificates. They consulted the university authorities and denied any contact with the center and its operators.
Eribo revealed that the sexist and his accomplices were prosecuted in court for allegedly committing fraud, imitation, and others.
The police chief also revealed that the commander arrested no less than seven suspects, alleging that rape of minors across the state.
He noted that under his leadership, the order was determined to continue its actions to ensure national security.
Eribo called on residents to provide police with reliable information about criminal activities in their communities and assure the public that the command will do everything possible to stop criminals in the state.
