Agents from the Kano State Statue Commission have arrested Shamsu Yakubu, a 24-year-old man, allegedly suspected of being obscene in a goat.
Yakubu, a resident of the Dawakin Kudu local government area, was arrested on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, on social media, showing him appearing to have licked the goat’s genitals.
The video soon spread, causing public anger in the state, according to reports.
In the video watched by Lib, Yakubu is found instructing another person to record him when he performs inappropriate behavior on the animal.
When questioned, he claimed he had taken action to “disseminate” and gained fame on social media.
However, members of his community were shocked by the behavior and threatened to deal with him.
A local community leader intervened and promptly reminded Hisbah board of directors, which led to Yakubu’s arrest.
During Kano’s preliminary trial, the suspect denied actually licking the goat’s genitals.
Yakub said, “I swear to Allah, I did not lick the goats. I only put my mouth in the area.”
He insisted that this was his first time engaging in such an act and promised never to repeat it.
He further denied that he was being affected by drugs or any drunken substances, but Hebrew authorities ordered psychiatric and drug assessments to assess their mental and physical state.
Sheikh Aminuddeen Abubakar responded to the incident and tried the act, condemning it, calling it a shameful and violating Islamic doctrine and moral act.
Sheikh Aminuddeen said: “It is tragic for a Muslim man to ignore all religious and moral values with such shameful behavior. This man obviously lacks any proper understanding of Islam. His pursuit of cheap social media has embarrassed him.”
