Luigi Mangione has been charged with DE charges against UnitedHealthCare CEO.
Brian Thompson was allegedly held in Manhattan, New York City, following the December 4 shooting last year.
The 26-year-old is charged with two counts of stalking, one count of murder by using a firearm, and a crime of alleged use of a silencer.
Mangione is accused of shooting backwards while Thompson was attending a meeting.
Officials claim that Mangione targeted Mr. Thompson, the chief executive of the largest private health insurance company in the United States.
A widespread pursuit followed, and he was arrested in Pennsylvania on December 9.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said prosecutors will seek fines in federal cases.
Federal crimes suffer severe fines, not state crimes, and are prosecuted by different levels of government.
“I direct federal prosecutors to seek death penalty in this case because we execute President Trump’s agenda to stop violent crime and keep the United States safe again,” she said in the announcement.
But lawyers representing Mangione believe that the death penalty is being sought as a “political stunt.”
Mangione is also charged in New York for alleged first-degree murder, as well as two second-degree murders.
He was also charged with counting weapons and counting of forging equipment.
He pleaded not guilty in a state case.
