Muhammad Maaba from Fujeregi village in Gbako local government area of Niger state was reportedly identified as Fujeregi Village in Niger state. According to local sources, Maba was ambushed on the road between Saganuwa and Fujeregi, the ex-husband of the woman he intends to get married, according to local sources. The attack is said to be motivated by a long-standing controversy about Fatima Suleiman, a woman at the center of the dispute. Fatima used to marry Alhaji Yikan Ogi, but he had divorced three times under Islamic law, which made the settlement impossible.
