Ondo State Police Command dismissed the report, alleging that Oluremi Tinubu, a vehicle in the First Lady’s convoy, was involved in a young girl in D3ath in Akur on Thursday, April 18, saying the claims were false and misleading.
Senator Tinubu has launched the New Hope Initiative Health Program at Ondo State and distributed 10,000 specialty toolkits, including Crocs and Scrubs, to midwives in the Southwest.
In a statement released by police spokesman DSP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the police clarified that the report published by Sahara journalists is not only inaccurate, but also lacks reliable basis.
“A false and misleading report published by a journalist on April 17 by Sahara, has attracted attention. The first lady’s convoy, Sen. Oluremi, is said to be responsible for the tragic death of the young girl in Akure,” the statement said.
“Eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigations conducted by the command confirmed that the incident was caused by a crash driver driven by an unregistered white Lexus vehicle, not any vehicles associated with the First Lady’s convoy.”
Police added that witnesses who saw the crash escaped the vehicle on a motorcycle immediately after the crash, which occurred in the oba-le-ele area of Akure. Several witnesses at the scene and the parents of the victims confirmed the claim.
The order also points to errors in the report regarding the age of the victim. The statement noted: “The Sahara journalist inaccurately claimed that the deceased was nine years old. According to her parents, the child was actually seven years old and even in such a sensitive situation, the factual accuracy of the publication was ignored.”
Police commissioners in Ondo state reportedly visited the families of the deceased and assured them that a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the incident was conducted.
A police spokesman reiterated: “The convoy involved in the first lady’s tragedy absolutely did not.”
