Nnamdi Kanu, a family of detained Biafra agitators, accused the federal government of pushing for false narratives to the public and manipulating the media.
In a statement Eplulin means The family members, the younger brother of the Biafra national agitator, expressed concern about the alleged false narrative and media manipulation of Kanu to weaken his image in order to violate the terrorist allegations brought against him by the same government.
They cite recent attacks on allegedly fabricated stories in Nigerian media, accusing the IPOB of crime and insecurity in the southeast, another attempt to connect Kanu to violence.
The statement clearly states that whenever Kanu’s court date approaches, media manipulation always comes to portray him in a bad light before the judiciary.
The statement part reads:On behalf of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples (IPOB) and their families of Biafra (IPOB), he wrote that the Nigerian government has addressed the ruthless and well-planned campaign of misinformation through sponsored adverse media reports.
“This intentional effort aims to connect the IPOB to alleged insecurities and crimes and to explicitly intend to affect the judicial proceedings in the Abuja court and the reputation of Tarnish Mazi Nnamdi Kanu before the international community, especially at the next court hearing on April 29, 2025.
“This pattern is clear and predictable. Every time Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s court date is approaching, a series of fabricated stories flooded the Nigerian media, accusing the IPOB of having crime and insecurity in the southeast. Recent examples include.
“The latest is: “Three suspected IPOB members of the police recovered N10.3 million in IMO”, “the police arrested three suspected IPOB members and recovered 10 million n10 million n10 million n10 million n10 million n10 million n10 million n10 million n10 million n10 million n10 million n10 million n10 million n10 million, “the police raided the IPOB/ESN’s hideout in the IMO”, “3 people were arrested as police officers Bust Ipob Hideout in IMO.
“These reports are part of the calculated media blitz aimed at manipulating public perceptions and undermining the judiciary’s responsibility to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“The slander of this system is not only an attack on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Ipob, but also a serious attack on justice and fairness.
“We explicitly condemn the manipulation of the judiciary and demand an immediate cessation.”
