
The tragedy in Okitipupa was the headquarters of the local government area of Okitipupa in Ondo State because of the murder of the late Madame Schuster Omoge, the grandson of the late musician.
The fatal incident occurred on the Ayeka/Igodan-Igbokoda highway following a violent confrontation between the deceased and the scavenger.
Witness claims suggest that the argument begins with an undisclosed issue that escalates into a deadly dispute. The suspect was reportedly identified as a scavenger, pulled out a dagger and slit the victim’s throat. Despite being taken to the hospital, Prince Omoji was declared D3AD by medical staff.
The incident sparked rapid action by residents and security agencies. Okitipupa committee chairman Andrew Ogunsakin identified a suspect named Machido Abubakar. He praised the quick response from the safety operators who tracked and detained the suspect within hours. Ogunsakin expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured them of the pursuit of justice. He also meets with local leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups and representatives of the Hausa/Fulani community to promote peace and solidarity among residents.
State Police Public Relations Officer Ayanlade Olayinka also confirmed the incident and arrested the incident, noting that the suspect is currently in police custody. As the investigation continues, the community has remained calm.
