    Akwa Ibom police intercepted a suspected child trafficking group and rescued the baby for N.8 million

    Agents from the Akwa Ibom State Police Commander have arrested suspected child traffickers and rescued a two-day baby for sale for N800,000.

    Further investigation led to the arrest of the grandmother and the mother of the baby.

    According to PPRO, it is acknowledged that infant N800,000 is sold.

    The rescued baby has been taken to UYO’s Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare for nursing and custody, pending the end of the investigation, PPRO said.

    “The Akwa Ibom State Police Department intercepted the alleged trafficking group for the protection of life and property,” the statement said.

    “The command intercepted a Mazda vehicle with registration number YAB 454 AA at the headquarters during patrol of NSIT ATAI/ORON ROAD. The vehicle was driven by a Bethel Anyanwu (a male) and had two female occupants and a two-day baby.

    “After the interrogation, the occupants were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the baby.
