At least four hunters were suspected of being members of the Islamic West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the local government area of Borno State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at 1:10 pm on April 20 in the Ajiri Gongo Village area when the victim (all members of the Lawanti Ward Hunters Group) was ambushed during a hunting expedition.
The victims were identified as Bukar Hjjea, 50; Bulama Karim, 45; Idrjisa Gote, 40; and Modu Theisami, 38.
They were attacked by insurgents, who dragged away four pumping rifles.

A combined security team was then mobilized to the area, where the bodies of the slain hunters were recovered and taken to Dikwa General Hospital, where they were certified dead and later released to family funerals according to Islamic rituals.
