An unidentified student at Yaba Technical College Lagos was shot to death in a suspected cult-related attack.
The incident took place on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, shortly after the students finished their exams that day.
According to Punk, the deceased was heading towards the back door of the agency, when some armed personnel cost him, took out their guns and shot him to death.
A student of the incident told the publication that the incident had caused panic on campus, witnessed the shooting, and was struggling for safety.
“The student just finished the exam and was heading towards the back door when some boys approached him and shot twice on the spot. The whole thing happened very quickly,” the student said.
Another student who longs to be anonymous said the attacker took back the gun from the deceased.
“The incident looked more like a cult attack, as the victim seemed to be armed before he was K!lled. We immediately learned that the boy shot and opened him, they searched his schoolbag and recovered the gun and bullets. They also made sure he was D3AD before leaving.”
Sources at the school linked the attack to the ongoing competition between the campus cult groups.
“K!lling is retaliating against the shooting that happened last week. A suspected cult member was shot but he survived. It looks more like a reward,” the source said.
Yabatech spokesman Adekunle Adams said the incident did not occur at the agency’s premises.
“The incident happened but was not in the university. It happened in the lounge close to the college. There were no cult-related incidents in the college, no events,” Adams said.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for the Lagos State Police Department, confirmed the incident that the deceased was shot and killed by a member of a rival cult.
PPRO added that at the time of investigation, seven suspects had been arrested for the crime.
“At around 3pm on Tuesday, the Saab ministry received a call in distress, allegedly allegedly shooting D3AD in the Yeba area,” he said.
“After receiving the report, a patrol team quickly mobilized to the scene and the deceased was found lying in his pool of blood.
“After careful observation, visible traces of violence were seen in the body, and four rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the pockets of the deceased on the scene. The body has been evacuated and deposited in the morgue for autopsy.”
