The bride revealed that her mother bought her a wedding dress without asking or even telling her, which sparked a conversation online.
The 28-year-old woman shared her story on Reddit’s I—- forum, expressing her frustration that her mother made such a personal decision without consulting her.
“She literally went out, bought a dress she liked, and put it in my closet without talking,” she wrote. “I just found something else one day – no conversation, no head, just clothes hanging there.”
The clothes she described as “big” and “poofy” were far from what she envisioned for herself. She added: “It’s not my style at all.”
To make things even more nervous, her mother is now unhappy that the bride has not tried the dress and instead accuses her of being “ungrateful.” The family also supported her mother and urged her to try it out to keep peace.
But the bride said it had nothing to do with the clothes – it was excluded from the moment she was expecting. “She let my two older sisters have their wedding moments and isn’t even willing to ask me what I want.”
In an update, the bride clarified that the dress was found in her childhood home, not in her own home. She also shared that she deliberately did not ask about the cost of it. “This dress is not my style at all, and I might be shocked to find out how much I spent on things I didn’t say and didn’t like,” she said. “It’s not the real price. I’m frustrated not being included in such a personal decision and feel that my preferences don’t matter.”

Support flooded the comment section, and many readers encouraged the bride to stand up. One commenter wrote: “Wedding dress is a personal choice, not something someone else can pick you up for you.” Another suggests that she politely thank her mother and then continue: “Go to the wedding dress. This is your wedding, not hers.”
Others suggest donating or selling the garment and establishing clear boundaries with family members. “This is your wedding,” one user wrote. “You have the right to choose your own clothes – don’t be forced to wear clothes that are not yours.”
