Nigerian singer Davido shared a bold chapter from the early days of his departure to pursue music.
Davido lives alone with her father in a 16-bedroom mansion and secretly builds a studio in the house. When his siblings were abroad and his mother passed by, he spent most of his time making music and smoking, under his father’s nose.
Feeling the pressure to hide his passion, he ran to London and stayed with his producer friend for six months. Back at his home in Nigeria, his family launched a search involving immigration officials and the army.
When Davido finally returned to Nigeria, he was not going to go home. He landed at the airport, intending to go to a friend’s residence – but the moment he walked out, an officer walked up to him and escorted him outside. Waiting for me and his father to subdue.
His father was not angry, but hugged him. David said, “I thought I would be scolded, but he was happy to see me.” That moment made Davido brave enough to tell his father the truth: he didn’t want to go to school – he just wanted to make music and make music.
