“I bought my first house with a 24 instead of a flashy car”

Nigerian media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo recently opened a podcast on how he made a life-changing financial decision at the age of only twenty-four.

According to him, after making a lot of money at the time, he chose to buy a house in Lekki instead of splurge with flashy cars or unnecessary luxury goods.

He said he changed his car in 2024 after driving for ten years. He mentioned that by the time he let go, the car actually cried and wanted to replace it. He said he never attracted a “flasty look” parade, but rather built real wealth, putting money into the moment you fell and you didn’t hit the ground, you landed on what you built.

He said enthusiastically that he criticized the growing culture, where young people make major financial decisions just to impress their followers of social media, and the people he pointed out are not even important in life five years later.

He also shares how disappointing it is when respected public figures seem to have it all, struggling secretly behind the scenes. He revealed that sometimes, these celebrities rent luxury homes on streets named after them while fighting against landlords because they don’t actually own the property.

Chud encourages young Nigerians to avoid making choices under peer pressure, especially in today’s tough economy where people usually weigh more than they do. He warned against trying to “keep” by forcing one’s lifestyle that one could not afford, just like riding a ride that could not maintain its appearance. Instead, he urged them to focus on making smart, long-term decisions to ensure their future.
