Financial reports now show that if Manchester United fails to win the Europa League, that’s why.
With the prospect of European football hanging by Manchester United’s thin threads in the 2025/2026 season, recent reports highlighted that the Red Devils could be forced to suffer huge losses if they fail to win the European League.
Currently ranked 14th and behind No. 6 Newcastle scored 21 points, and their chances of entering European football through the league rankings appear bleak.
Their situation worsened recently at Old Trafford, ending another potential avenue for European competition.
Now, their only hope for European football is to win the Europa League.
Professor Rob Wilson, director of senior education at the university football business campus, highlighted the huge financial impact of Manchester United’s Europa League campaign in an interview with Genting Casino.
He estimated that his Europa League was worth £100 million, highlighting the high bets involved.
According to Wilson, failing to win the game would mean missing out on European football completely, so there is no prize money and the loss is about £60 million.
In addition, the club will confiscate about £10m from the extra match they could have played.
Wilson also noted that certain terms in the business agreement and sponsorship would result in a decrease in value and further promote financial impact.
He concluded that the total loss could comfortably reach £100 million.
