Commuters kidnapped as gunman in Givara strikes

The gunmen reportedly kidnapped commuters traveling along two vehicles along the Eleyin Village in the Isanlu-Isin area of Isin, Kwara State.

The attack took place around 5:45 pm on Friday, April 27, just days after a similar kidnapping near Obbo-Aiyegunle in the Ekiti local government area, where seven travelers were kidnapped on their way from Abuja to Offa.

According to witnesses, armed attackers blocked the highway, intercepted two private vehicles, Honda and a Toyota, and forced the crew into the nearby forest. As of the time of the report, the whereabouts of the victims remain unknown.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident Saturday night through its spokesman SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi. She revealed in a statement that the two victims were identified as Ganiyu Ajayi and Kolawole Adeyemi, rescued through coordinated operations involving military and local vigilance.

As security forces intensify search operations, efforts are underway to find and rescue the remaining kidnappers. Adetoun urges residents to remain calm and alert and support law enforcement by providing timely and credible information.

She further noted that security measures in the region were strengthened, highlighting active bush, strategic patrols and intelligence-led operations as part of the order to prevent further attacks. She assured the public that police remained committed to protecting lives and property in Kwara State.
