The federal government expressed concern that more citizens have become victims of cyberslavery.
Naija News Report to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Maitama ChewingSaid that most young Nigerians are tempted to the country with a commitment to profitable work, especially in crypto-related actions.
The Ministry’s spokesman has made a statement on Sunday Kimiebi KimiyfoTuggar notes that victims of online fake job seekers are under inhumane conditions and Slavery.
He assured that the government is working with international partners to arrest the culprit.
Tuggar recommends that Nigerians verify all employment quotes through official channels and report suspicious cases to relevant authorities to conduct necessary investigations and actions to reduce the activities of perpetrators.
It reads: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ note is serious about the shocking rise of cyberslavery in parts of West Africa, targeting Nigerian citizens, especially vulnerable young people. Many young Nigerians, including underage teenagers, have been tempted to gain profitable employment abroad, especially in action related to passwords.
“In fact, these people are trafficked into complex scam operations and enslaved to work from crime centers, commonly known as the ‘419 network scanning factories’. There, they are forced to send thousands of fraudulent emails, text messages, harassment of victims, to victims in mandatory and inhumane conditions.
“The ministry is depressing to note that the recent economic and organized crime office (EOCO) in Accra, Ghana rescued and detained a group of Nigerians who were forced to engage in cybercrime under inhuman conditions. This incident underlines the serious exploitation and abuse associated with cybercrime operations, which also requires enhanced criminal layoffs to enhance criminal responsibility. This measure puts criminals and their motives responsible for murder.
“The ministry strongly warns all Nigerians, especially young people and parents, to exercise caution when job opportunities arise, especially those with promising easy money, overseas travel or remote work involving cryptocurrencies. It is therefore recommended that Nigerians verify all employment quotes through official channels and report suspicious cases to the relevant authorities in order to conduct necessary investigations and actions to reduce the activities of the perpetrators.
“The ministry wants to assure the public that as a preventive measure to address this unfortunate situation, the federal government is working closely with regional partners, law enforcement agencies and international organizations to deal with this heinous crime, rescue victims and bring perpetrators to justice.
“The Ministry remains committed to protecting Nigerian citizens at home and abroad and will continue to raise awareness of the new threats to the welfare and dignity of our people.”
