Spain declared a state of emergency after a nationwide blackout hit the country, putting roads in trouble and causing people to panic. The country’s interior ministry confirmed new developments in a statement, adding that emergencies will be applied in areas where chaos will last for days. The chaos has caused nationwide chaos as the Ministry of the Interior deployed 30,000 police officers nationwide to stay safe on dark nights. This is after a large queue of large queues outside residents, where tourists desperately seek to store essentials and get cash as they may appear in uncertainty. The airport was also hit by a power outage, with the country’s flagship airline’s Tap Air warning Portugal’s holiday makers to delay and cancel the airport until further notice. In Spain and Portugal, train and subway services were closed and people were trapped in tunnels and rails, forcing evacuation. So far, Madrid, Andalusia and Estreplala have asked the central government to take over public order and other functions. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez told reporters earlier that the cause of the unprecedented power outage is still unknown, but now the increased power has returned to about 60% of the country’s range. Portugal’s acting Prime Minister Luis Montenegro said the country wanted to see power fully restored “in a few hours” – but that could be longer than Spain, which relies on the contributions of France and Morocco, not just Portugal. Pedro Sanchez said in his national address: “We have no conclusive information on the reasons for the cuts (powers) cuts, so I ask people to inform themselves through official channels, just like in the past crises. There is no evidence of civil protection issues for the time being. I say again, there is no problem of insecurity. As the authorities acknowledged that the state of emergency announced in Spain was first seen on the Linda Ikeji blog, as the authorities acknowledged for several days.
