About 20 passengers were kidnapped by pirates who hijacked a commercial speed ship along Calabar Waters in Akwa Ibom State.
Sources told security analyst Zagazola Makama that the ship was identified as “Devinewill” and was hijacked by armed personnel on April 18, 2025.
The gunman forced the passengers to board their own ships, driving them to an unknown destination.
A comedian, Odey Mathias, commonly known as General Odey, is one of the ridden passengers.
A worker at Oron Beach confirmed the incident, noting that the Navy patrol from Calabar responded quickly but could not stop the pirates from escaping with passengers.
The hijacked ship was found empty and later recovered by the Navy Patrol.
Work is being made to track the kidnappers and ensure the victims are released.
