The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has reactivated the digital tinted glass licensing system, allowing individuals to apply for a permit for vehicles with tinted windows.
This was a previous ban on tinted glass licenses in June 2022, which was cancelled in February 2024. The NPF is taking steps to prevent abuse and ensure compliance with the Automobile (Prohibition of Glass) Act of 1991.

National Security: NPF Reactivates Digital Non-Tinned Glass License System
Emphasize the role in enhancing security and public confidence
NPM’s Nigerian Police Force IGP, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Dr. IGP, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reactivated the issuance of the National Colored Glass License (TGP) and provides a secure and user-friendly digital platform through https://possap.gov.ng./possap.gov.gov.gov.gov.gov.gov.gov.gov.ng.
The initiative is in response to a wide range of public complaints about harassing drivers about the use of tinted windows and reflects the need for a clear, transparent and responsible process to formalize the factory on the vehicle with tinted glass. As modern cars increasingly manufacture with tinted windows, they provide a standardized system that can provide legally used standardized systems while ensuring public safety.
Vehicles of color are often used for criminal purposes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, “one-stop” scams and other forms of gangsters. Their use hinders police visibility and hinders effective law enforcement, resulting in public insecurity. Reactivation of the licensing system is a strategic initiative to identify legitimate users, such as individuals with medical needs or members of the security community, while preventing criminal abuse. Police investigation capabilities and national security efforts are expected to be strengthened.
Applicants can now process their licenses online and have their identification verification through a National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN) as well as biometric capture and background checks. The system also has a digital license for QR codes, with a simplified processing schedule of 72 hours.
To ensure a smooth transition, a 30-day grace period has been approved, effective from May 1, 2025 and drivers are expected to comply. Enforcement will begin at the end of this period. Officials found that decisive handling will be carried out in accordance with existing disciplinary procedures and engage in non-professional acts such as extortion or harassment during law enforcement.
The Police Inspector General reiterated the troops’ commitment to a technology-driven and citizen-centered policing strategy. He urged the public to accept the initiative with a safer path, a stronger public trust and a safer Nigeria interest.
