The National Sports Commission (NSC) has taken decisive action to ensure advance payments for Super Eagles coach salaries to stabilize Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Chairman Shehu Dikko revealed that the committee covered coach Eric Chelle’s salary through a presidential support group until October.

Dikko explained in a broadcast interview with former Nigeria International Segun Odegbami that the intervention of the NSC is crucial.
“When we took office, Nigeria played in four qualifying matches and only scored 12 points. It was a complicated situation.” He said.
To address this issue, the Commission proposed the establishment of a presidential support group, a public-private partnership that was formally captured for the first time in the national budget.
The support group played an important role in alleviating financial pressures from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and ensuring seamless technical preparation.
Super Hawks coach salary covers until October
One of the group’s earliest moves was to ensure Eric Chelle’s salary would be paid upfront, allowing him to focus entirely on managing the Super Hawks.
Dikko stressed that “We worked with the Nigerian Football Federation to appoint the coach and despite the NFF’s contract, we decided to pay his salary until October through the support group.”
The committee stressed that although it did not directly handle the coach’s contract, the funding of the support group ensured stability in the technical direction, an important part of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Financial and logistical support for driving team morale
In addition to the Super Hawks coach salaries, the NSC also offers additional support, such as organizing charter flights for fans during the Rwanda qualifiers.
