Former Nigeria Senator Shehu Sani warned that freedom of expression comes at a cost now.
In Facebook posts, he urged Nigerians to like to express their opinions in order to save some attorney fees in case they face lawsuits for comments or social media posts.
He noted that even if lawyers propose unpaid work, they often ask for money to pay for fees such as fuel or telephone credit.
“Free speech is not free. Always set aside a sum of money to pay your attorney if you are filed or posted on your social media account. The attorney who agrees to give you free service will ask for money to refuel their car and have lunch after the court meeting. If you are sure to give a certain amount of representation, you are worth a representative. Attorney.”
