The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) invited her to make money at her daughter’s luxury wedding, and actress Iyabo Ojo broke the silence at her invitation.
Iyabo confirmed in a statement posted to her Instagram that she visited the EFCC office on May 5 after returning from the UK. According to her, officials asked her about her background, career and events surrounding the viral wedding celebrations.
She said EFCC officials showed her videos at the event, which featured videos of guests spraying naira and foreign currency during the event. When asked if she knew it was illegal, Iyabo replied:
“I think Naira is only crime of abuse or dismemberment.”
To her surprise, EFCC officials clarified that Nigerian law prohibits spraying of any currency (or other means).
Even though she was released on the same day, Oyabo’s lawyer represented her for her, just in case she called again.
She ended her notes with a warning to Nigerians:
“Maybe it’s time to rethink this long-standing tradition. Let’s prioritize caution and avoid any potential problems.”
