An Uber passenger has been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole in 2022 to murder Christina Spicuzza, 38, a four-year-old mother.
Calvin Crew, 25, was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Allegheny County Courthouse in Pittsburgh. Spicuzza’s family, despite the damage, demanded no death penalty, noting that despite the ruthless nature of the crime, they “expressed mercy.”
The crew did not appear in the sentencing, but family members issued an emotional impact statement. “You should be sentenced to death, but we showed mercy,” said Spicuzza’s mother Cindy. “You executed her. There was no mercy, no remorse. It was abominable. It was murder.”
Spicuzza’s fiancé Brandon Marto condemned the crew’s absence, calling him a coward. “Christy is everything to my family,” he said. “I got lost, lost control. She saw something in me.”
In addition to life imprisonment, crew members were awarded 13 to 26 years for kidnapping and robbery.

The tragic incident occurred on February 10, 2022. Spicuzza picked up the crew and crew of the hoodie (they wore masks and hoodies) while working for Uber. After ten minutes of riding, Dashcam footage showed the crew placing the gun on the back of her head.
“You have to joke,” Spitzaza said, then defending her life. “Come on, I have a family…I’m begging you. I have four children.”
The crew replied: “I also have a family. Now I’m driving.”
The video ended when the staff noticed the dashboard and deleted it. Two days later, Spicuzza’s body was found in a forest area in Monroeville with a gunshot wound to the head.
The crew was arrested shortly afterwards. Although he claimed he left the vehicle and went home by bus, the surveillance camera contradicted his story. GPS Records tracked Spicuzza’s car in multiple communities, and her dashboard was later found near the pick-up location.

According to the criminal lawsuit, a text message from crew girlfriend Tanaya Mullen found in an investigation: “If we were caught, I wouldn’t go to jail.”
During the sentencing, the crew’s defense attorney listed his violent and neglected upbringing. His legal team announced plans to appeal the guilt.
