Jay-Z is exacerbating his legal battle with a woman who accused him of rape, despite her decision to waive the lawsuit earlier this year.
The rapper filed a revised libel lawsuit, accusing the woman of being known as Jane Doe, who continued to publicly support her claims through social media posts, which he believed was malicious and false.
According to the latest court filing, Jay-Z cites Tiktok, allegedly posted by Doe, where she saw her lips synchronized on the audio clip saying, “You can’t pay me a million dollars to ask me for an apology video, I stand by what I said I said, I said f***.” Jay-Z’s legal team believes the article shows “shocking and reckless disregard for facts” and stresses her reputation even after the lawsuit is withdrawn.
DOE initially filed a case claiming that Jay-Z and Music Mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs raped her after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. She later waived the lawsuit, saying she was worried about the powerful figure being retaliated. However, she has been refusing to withdraw her charges.
Jay-Z also shifted his legal focus to DOE’s lawyer Tony Buzbee. The revised lawsuit alleges that the Internet Protocol (IP) address related to Buzbee Law Firm is responsible for more than 100 edits on Wikipedia. The editors reportedly strengthened Buzbee’s online profile in trying to damage Jay-Z’s reputation and the reputation of his entertainment company Roc Nation.
It is ridiculous for Butzby to dismiss the charge. “I’m trying to wrap my head around this creative complaint. As far as I understand, the new argument is that someone has revised Wikipedia about my reputation? It’s ridiculous and super weak. I have nothing to do with Wikipedia and haven’t seen it in a few years.”
The lawsuit marks another chapter of high-profile and increasingly personal legal hatred, both parties escalate their claims out of court and into the public eye.
