Political Economy professor Pat Utomi announced the establishment of a shadow government under the shadow government of the Big Tent Alliance on Monday, May 5. The initiative is intended as a structural opposition to President Bora Tinub’s administration.
A shadow government, usually found in the parliamentary system, reflects the structure of actual government, providing a platform for censorship, policy alternatives and opposition. Utomi describes the version as a “national emergency response” to Tinubu government policies and governance.
According to UTOMI, the group includes members from a variety of opposition parties, aiming to critically review government actions, highlight policy flaws, and provide alternatives across major sectors such as economy, education, health care, infrastructure, law and order, and constitutional reforms.
“Recently, defectors from progressive nationals across Congress have provided further evidence that democracy in Nigeria is not good,” Utomi said, stressing the need for credible opposition to focus on governance failures and reshape national discourse.
He also criticized the government for handling the removal of oil subsidies, accusing it of covering up bad plans under the guise of political consensus.
“This shadow team also has to address issues of ethics, transparency and integrity that will continue to challenge the government at any time,” he added. The shadow cabinet will report to meet weekly to review public policy and propose reforms.
Notable members of Shadow Therapy Hospital include human rights advocate Dee Farotimi, who will lead Obbudstic Portfolio. The others in the policy delivery department are Oghine Momh, remember the hearts of Shonze, Ughta Daniel, Daniel Advueobe, Halimad and David. Other members include Adefullus, Peter Agbeh, Sardu Maida, Victor, Victor, Wrifte Tokon and Amanternary.
Further members are Ali Side Ali, Ibrahim Abdukarim, Adenike Oriola, who promise to Adewusi, Ukachukwu Awozie, Ambrose Obemma, Rwang Pam, Dr. Kingsley Annedo, Auluulal Aliue, Ghazali Ado, Ghazali Ado, Nana Kaelor, Nana Kaelor, Ausha Yusa Yusa Yusa Yusa Yahse Yahse Yahah Yahah, Garles garles akibh, Garles akiboh.
Minister of Information and Ethnic Training Mohammed Idris responded to the development, saying the initiative was inappropriate in Nigeria’s federal structure. “The idea of the so-called ‘shadow government’ is a distortion as our country celebrates 26 years of uninterrupted presidential democracy,” he said.
“Nigeria is not a parliamentary system that practices such a system, and there is nothing in our statutes. While opposition to politics is a central feature of democracy, it must always be implemented within the scope of etiquette. The idea of Shadow Government is sadly, this test has not passed this verification.
