Melinda French Gates revealed that her ex-husband, Bill Gates, did not consult her and then decided to give away almost all of the $200 billion in wealth from her foundation by 2045.
Bill Gates, 69, announced that he would donate 99% of his wealth over the next two decades, effectively closing the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he plans to retain only 1% of his wealth, estimated at $1.62 billion.
“I made this decision after I left,” Melinda told Fortune, referring to her withdrawal from the foundation in 2024. “It’s between Bills [CEO] Mark Suzman and the Board of Directors. I think this is an amazing decision. ”
Despite not participating in the decision, Melinda praised the move, saying giving back to the society has always been their goal. She now focuses on her own philanthropy, supporting Pivotal Ventures in women and girls.
Melinda served as co-chair for three years after her divorce in 2021. She recently returned to the spotlight to promote her memoir, which reflects her high-profile division and personal growth.
She said at the party that the marriage ended due to a lack of honesty and trust. She had previously linked Bill with Jeffrey Epstein as one of the reasons for the divorce.
Bill Gates admitted to making a “mistake” during his marriage, but has not publicly resolved the allegations of infidelity.
