The patience gold of a Nigerian woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Takwa Circuit Court in Ghana for trafficking four young women, including one HIV-positive woman, from Nigeria to Ghana for forced prostitution.
The court, chaired by Judge Hathia Manu, convicted the 32-year-old man on four charges: human trafficking, illegal abortion, assault and prostitution. Gold was sentenced to 20 years in prison for human trafficking, five years of illegal abortion and two months of assault and prostitution, according to a Graphic Online report. These sentences will run simultaneously, which means she will serve for up to 20 years.
Assistant Chief of Police Samuel Ahiabor brought the facts of the case, revealing that between March 22 and 27, 2025, gold trafficked victims in the state of Benus, Nigeria to Ghana, a false promise from a law firm at her drinking site. Upon arrival in Ghana, the victims were forced to do sexual work. Gold reportedly used intimidation tactics to control women, forcibly shaved their pubic hair, removed their nails, and made them take a swearing, threatening madness if they failed to repay the money she claimed she spent on them.
The court heard that gold collected all benefits from sexual work and did not say no regard for the welfare of the victims. A trafficked woman who was pregnant at the time was given gold to herbs on March 28, 2025, resulting in an illegal miscarriage. Another victim fell ill on March 12, 2025 and was taken to the hospital and was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Fearing that the woman’s health would affect the business, Gold moved her to another location to continue sex work and continued to collect the money she received.
ASP Ahiabor also details another incident on March 25, 2025, when Gold visited HIV-positive victims to collect proceeds and was handed over to GH¢300. The amount was allegedly unsatisfied, allegedly beat her, causing facial injuries and also grabbed her antiretroviral drugs.
The victim reported the abuse to the Asankrangwa Police Department after the assault and withholding of drugs. Jinzi was subsequently arrested and charged.
This case is not quarantined. In 2024, the Asokwa Circuit Court in Kumasi sentenced another Nigerian woman, 40-year-old Rose Ikem, to five years in prison, toiling and trafficking from Nigeria to Ghana for prostitution. IKEM was also convicted of assault and ordered to pay 24,000 compensation to four victims.
