Nigerian online critic Vincent Martins Otse (commonly known as VDM) has publicly reacted to new allegations against him just days after being released from the EFCC custody.
VDM was released after being arrested on May 7, 2025 at the GTBank branch in Abuja. Speaking after his release, he claimed that there was a consistent effort to falsely accuse him and put him to jail.
He said he honored his four-hour interrogation on May 12 for invitations to the EFCC. During the meeting, a woman identified as Princess Barbara Odoh accused him of stealing intellectual property.
VDM shared that the allegation relate to his initiatives about fighting online vendor scams, which he claims is already an important part of his platform. He explained:
“When they arrived at the EFCC, they filed an allegation against me, which was very crazy.”
He said he invested heavily in ideas aimed at reducing online scams while in China, adding that his efforts helped many victims recover their funds. He questioned his claim that there was no ODOH on the line that could accuse him of stealing her ideas.
“This woman claims that the idea was her idea. Madam, what’s going on with your idea, this is what I do in this country using my platform, I have a big platform, people are cheated, I make sure they receive millions of dollars. I collected millions of dollars. I know how many people you have, do you know how many people you have? Is it your idea to restore your claim?”
VDM argued that the allegations appeared to be part of a intentional attempt to frame his attempt, and stressed that any claim on him should at least be serious.
“If Una Wan held me, please let Una find something big, not all of them, and I’ll be passing on all these things.”
He also spoke about his broader mission and personal pride in his work:
“My pride in all this is to hit me in the chest and say I did something in this country before leaving the world.”
VDM promised a legal lawsuit against ODOH to end and said he would also pursue traditional justice.
“Madam, you go to court and you swear juice.”
