John Cena is sharing advice after being diagnosed with skin cancer.
Cena, 48, was twice diagnosed with melanoma, first with a spot on his left pectoral muscle, and a year later, another spot on his left upper tweed muscle was also cancer.
“I got two calls, ‘Hey, you have to come back because the biopsy came back with cancer.”
“The information is shocking, and it’s there to make me change my life.”
After his skin cancer panic, the 17-time WWE champion said he immediately put his daily sunscreen on.
He told USA Today: “Skin care is a more delicious, recognized term and subject.”
“The discussion between men may be harder to initiate. But that’s not the case,” he stressed.
“Men, especially, are becoming more aware of self-care…I just think we need to make it more common.”
Women are twice as likely to wear sunscreen as men, and by the age of 50, men are at a greater risk of developing melanoma than women.
However, men of any age are more likely to be from melanoma than women, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.
“SPF is more common in women’s vernacular because it is directly related to beauty,” Senna said.
Cena says men have to pay more attention to sunscreen, which is the ideal time for women’s morning skin care routine.
“If someone uses SPF because they don’t want wrinkles, like someone goes to the gym and says, ‘I want to be torn.’ But, “being torn” is essentially making healthier choices,” he explains.
“So you can go to the gym for aesthetic purposes, but the rewards of training are more than aesthetic beauty. I think SPF is in the same lane.”
Senna noted that it is more aware of the skin being “very easy.”
“I did something very aspiring in the strength and health sectors in terms of nutritional options and training programs, and it was really complicated, difficult,” he said.
But he added that wearing SPF is like “brushing teeth.”
Senna said he would love to see a tube of sunscreen next to the man’s toothpaste and see that they remember to use it every day.
“My perception of life has changed, but it needs some real sober news,” he said.
“I don’t want anyone to get there, so I just want to use my platform to get ahead of that one.”
