Police arrest three suspected kidnappers, Ekiti's armed robbers

The Ekiti State Police Department has arrested three people suspected of kidnapping and armed robbery.

The headquarters spokesman, SP Sunday Abutu, revealed this in a statement Tuesday, May 13, 2025, saying the suspect was arrested by safer highway agents at daily stops and searched along Awo-Ekiti/Igede-Ekiti Road last weekend.

The suspect was stopped while traveling on a commercial vehicle and claimed to have been on his way from Ondo State to Kwara State.

They were identified as Sunday Idoko, Gabriel Sunday and Olivara Olajid and were reasonably suspected of being armed robbers.

“At the same time, when they initially tried to evade arrest by approaching the checkpoint at high speed, the operator’s bravery and professional strategies arrested them,” PPRO said.

“Investigations show that they are members of a specific cult and they are heading to Kwara State for operations.

“The items recovered from them are: a local pistol hidden on a towel, two live cartridges, three cell phones, a power bank, a substance suspected of charm and a total cash amount of one hundred and fifty-five naira.

The suspect identified as Abubakar Sadiu was arrested in a commercial bus, “he was reasonably suspected to be the kidnapper.”

“The suspect tried to bribe police with 50,000 naira (#50,000) but was denied and arrested, claiming to have evacuated Kwara from Ondo State, but the location was not confirmed in any state,” he said.

“The items recovered from him were: total cash amount of 397 naira (#397,000), 10 kg of red oil, two smartphones, a head torch light, a lighter, an empty black bag and a black face cap.

“The suspect is currently under investigation.

Abutu said police chief Joseph Eribo solicited support from residents of the state, “including in parking and search operations to achieve success in fighting crime and crime in the state.”
