The federal government has announced temporary closure of the Ichola River bridge in Lagos State for emergency repairs.
Lagos Federal Government of Engineering Mrs. Olukorede Kesha said in a statement Tuesday, May 13 that the closure will begin at 7.00 am on Sunday, May 18 and will last for 21 days.
She said some parts of the bridge will be completely closed, while others will be partially closed during this period.
Kesha said repairs will involve lifting the bridge deck to replace worn bearings and performing other important maintenance tasks.
According to her, the purpose is to make bridges and pedestrians more comfortable.
“We understand the inconvenience that may be caused, but it is a necessary step to keep the bridge in good condition and keep all road users safe,” Kesha said.
She added that traffic transfers have been carefully arranged and traffic officials will guide motorists on the ground and ensure smooth flow.
She also appealed to residents, commuters and business owners in the area to plan a movement forward and collaborate during this period.
“Safety signs and traffic management tools will be established to minimize disruptions.
She added: “We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you and thank the public for their patience and cooperation.”
