Wednesday’s Joint Admissions and Admissions Committee finally acknowledged that it affected student performance in the 2025 unified Level 3 entrance examination.
The board of directors Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede admitted this at a continuing press conference in Abuja.
“The moment that should change has changed due to one or two mistakes,” Oloyd said.
UTME is a key prerequisite for entering the Nigerian tertiary institution. It tested candidates from four subjects, including mandatory English use, and three others derived from the research areas they proposed.
Of the 1.9 million UTME candidates, more than 1.5 million reportedly scored below 200 points in the highest 400 points, raising concerns across the education sector.
According to the study by the examination institutions, a total of 1,955,069 results were processed, with only 4,756 candidates (0.24%) scored 320 and above, which was considered the top performance, while 7,658 candidates (0.39%) scored (0.39%) scored between 300 and 319, bringing 300 and above people (0.6 300 and 12,414) to those who were 300 and above.
In addition, 73,441 candidates (3.76%) scored between 250 and 299, while 334,560 candidates (17.11%) scored between 200 and 249.
A total of 983,187 candidates (50.29%) scored between 160 and 199, which is widely considered the lowest threshold for admission to many institutions.
Similarly, 488,197 candidates (24.97%) scored between 140 and 159, 57,419 candidates (2.94%) scored between 120 and 139, and 3,820 candidates (0.20%) scored between 100 and 119% and 2,031 candidates (0.10%) scored (0.10%).
Of all candidates, more than 75% (1.5 million) scored less than 200, with an average score of more than 400 for the exam.
Some affected candidates threaten to file a lawsuit against JAMB.

The 379,997 candidates in the five Southeast states and Lagos will be rescheduled to another unified Level 3 and admissions examination.
Professor Ishaq, the JAMB Registrar, announced this in a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
Oloyede, who is responsible for the “destructive” of UTME in 2025, said the affected candidates will receive text messages starting from the board starting Thursday.
“The affected candidates will start receiving rescheduled text messages from tomorrow.
“I’m sorry, I take full responsibility.”
