Jurors at the ongoing federal sex trafficking trial in Sean Diddy’s comb were introduced on Thursday, May 15, and clear text messages were exchanged between music tycoon and singer Cassie Ventura, who was testifying as a star witness to the prosecutor.
The texts date back to the early days of a 11-year relationship in 2009, and Combs’ legal team used a mandatory claim to challenge Ventura, demonstrating what the defense believes is a passionate and voluntary exchange, the group’s sexual behavior on drug fuel, called “freak discounts.”
A message from Ventura to the comb reads: “I’m ready to be frightened haha.” The comb answers: “Tell me a day. You choose. Name it.”
In another exchange, Combs wrote, “I can’t wait to see you.” Ventura replied, “So too. I just hope it can’t control.”
Combs’ lawyers highlighted the information, which is part of the story to show that Ventura is happy to participate in the encounter. The texts are highlighted on the court screen, while Ventura, now eight months pregnant, read them aloud in the soft tone of the witness stands.
Ventura’s husband, Alex Fine, was watching in a court gallery while testifying. Sometimes he looked down at his legs, then turned his eyes to his wife, and the big screen showed the information to the public.
Ventura admitted in an earlier testimony that she told Combs that she liked encounters, but that was only because she felt it was the only way to stay in touch with him. “I was just in love and wanted to make him happy,” she said. “I hated weirdness. Later I felt worthless, disgusting and humiliating. But I didn’t speak at the time.”
The Ministry of Defense also introduced other news about Ventura, showing her what she was preparing for in her plan – including information she texted about buying candles and packing bags for them.
Despite the defense introducing the texts, Ventura insisted in her testimony that her participation was never truly voluntary. She describes the relationship as emotional abuse and isolation.
The defense said it intends to show that not only Ventura, but other women accusing combs of their own free will.
Thursday marked Ventura’s third day on the witness stand, with defense attorney Anna M. Esteveo expected to end on Friday.
The comb faces multiple charges, including extortion and sexual trafficking. If convicted, he can face life in prison.
