Real Madrid has confirmed the appointment of its former player Xabi Alonso as head coach of the Spanish Giants for the 2025/26 season.
Galacticos confirmed the appointment of Xabi Alonso after his last match in La Liga, Spain, on its official website on Sunday, May 25, 2025. He announced earlier this month that he will leave his position as Bayer Leverkusen’s boss by the end of the season.
Former Liverpool and Spanish midfielder Alonso signed a three-year contract until June 30, 2028.
He led Leverkusen to his first ever Bundesliga title – and won the German Cup in his first full season as senior club manager during his 2023-24 campaign. However, they failed to retain the Bundesliga this season, second only to Bayern Munich.
Who will replace Xabi Alonso in Bayer Leverkusen?
Former Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is expected to replace Bayer Leverkusen’s Alonso.
