Record Academy confirmed the introduction of two additional categories ahead of the 2026 Grammy Awards.
The Record Academy has announced the addition of a new category at the 68th Grammy Awards ceremony, which is scheduled for 2026: Best Traditional Country Album.
This will be the only new category introduced by the upcoming ceremony and reflects the college’s ongoing efforts to adapt to the growing landscape of the music industry while retaining its rich heritage.
The new category aims to commemorate the album that embodies the basic sound of country music, derived from acoustic instruments, lyrical storytelling and classic production techniques.
By doing so, the Academy recognizes the difference between a modern, genre-integrated national project and a project that is loyal to traditional forms.
With this change, the Grammy Awards continue to show their commitment to respecting various artistic expressions to ensure that tradition and innovation are represented on the greatest stage of music.
The Record Academy also confirmed that the “Best Album Cover” category will also be resurrected at the 2026 awards ceremony.
