Senior Nigerian rapper and social commentator, well-known Illbliss Tobechukukwu Melvin Ejiofor has serious concerns about insecurity, economic hardship, rising propaganda and what he described as a quiet censorship of Nigeria’s disagreement with voices.
Respected lyrics made these comments in a recent episode Real shareholders Podcast, he reflects on the state of the country and the evolving control strategies in traditional and digital media.
According to Illbliss, Nigeria is currently promoting one of the most dangerous periods in its history, especially in terms of publicity. He regrets the increasing number of conscious music and public comments about the government, revealing his 2020 protest track nation Was evacuated from the radio station to express his outspoken news.
“Before the countryside, I had songs similar to another kind of war and ethnic cake. But OAPS would tell me they couldn’t play them because it could attract fines,” Illbliss revealed that it has emphasized that the censorship has long existed in mainstream media.
However, the rapper noted that this inhibition has now expanded into the digital space. He noted that the rebound of online opposition to key voices is often organized and artificial. “You gave up on the record and suddenly got hit by more than a hundred tweets saying, ‘Why are you laughing at this country? Not bad.’ You can say that it’s coordinated. He said.
Illbliss also accused the government of moving beyond control of traditional radio waves, cleverly affecting public opinion through social media platforms and sponsored narratives. He is frustrated with how podcasts and online influencers are increasingly used to promote positive narratives in government narratives, even if the daily reality contradicts these claims.
“We think social media is a safe space for our activism, but now you have to wonder, are the governments starting to fund distractions? Are they much more complicated than we thought?” He asked.
The rapper ended urging Nigerians to remain alert to the weaponization of digital space, warning that the line between true public discourse and manufacturing propaganda became dangerously blurred.
“Propagandaists can say the government has done a good job…”
