Reports show that Athlete, Favor Ofili, had transferred her allegiance from Nigeria to Türkiye before future national activities.
The favors of the world and Nigerian record holder have reportedly converted her sporting allegiance to Türkiye, a move reportedly started on May 31, 2025.
The decision marks an important turning point in the career of highly talented sprinters and highlights the frustration of the Nigerian Athletics Federation (AFN).
Many believe her decision was influenced by the association’s lack of competence. Ofili received the 2024 Paris 2024 Olympics qualification criteria, but found that neither the AFN nor the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) failed to enter the Olympics, actually causing her to lead to a second consecutive Olympic Games due to bureaucracy.
As early as 2021, Ofili also missed the Tokyo Olympics after the AFN and Nigeria Anti-Doping Commission (NADC) failed to conduct mandatory tests in time, a mistake that disqualified her and 13 other Nigerian athletes.
Despite these repeated setbacks, the current AFN leader was re-elected in June 2025, just weeks after Ofili started her turn to Turkey.
At the same time, Türkiye has been actively recruiting top international talents, especially athletes from Jamaica and countries that are fighting against governance.
Ofili’s move reflects the growing trend of elite athletes seeking competition and administrative stability elsewhere. Her departure was considered a major loss to track and field in Nigeria and awakened reforms in its governing bodies.
