

Nigeria’s goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was appointed as state ambassador by the governor of Enugu State.
Enugu Governor Peter Mbah has appointed Super Hawks goalkeeper Maduka Okoye as state ambassador, recognizing his football achievements and vision for youth development.
The news comes as Okoye visited the Lion Building on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, and he and Governor Mbah explored a collaborative effort to leverage sports as a tool to empower young people and drive economic growth in the state.
Governor Mbah explained that the appointment follows Okoye’s intention to establish a charitable foundation and a football academy in Enugu.
“It’s great to welcome Super Hawks and Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye to the Lions Tower today.” The governor said. “He is the proud son of Enugu, and he continues to shine on national and international platforms, and he is eager to give back to his roots.”
He added that the state government will allocate land for the proposed academy and extends invitations to Okoye to the upcoming Enugu International Marathon.
“In honor of his achievements and commitment to youth development, I am proud to appoint him as ambassador of Enugu State. He will be a role model for our children, especially in our Smart Green School, Mba said.
Okoye praised the warm reception and honor, saying this time it made sense.
“I really thank his Excellency Dr. Peter Mba for the welcome.” He said. “It was a memorable encounter with a focus on growing through sports and economic initiatives. ”
He also praised the governor’s development agenda and reiterated his willingness to contribute through the upcoming projects.
