Federal prosecutors drop several high-profile charges against music tycoon Mogul Sean Didi combing through his ongoing criminal trial in New York City.
Allegations including attempted kidnapping, attempted arson and assistance and treach traffickers were withdrawn just the day before the end of the debate.
The development was disclosed in a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, who the prosecutor explained that the ruling followed the judge’s directives to simplify the jury’s instructions to ensure clarity. Despite adjustments, Didi still faces several serious sexual trafficking charges related to the wider racket case.
Among the allegations dropped is one claim Didi orchestrated the kidnapping of his former employee, Clark, who was allegedly forced to conduct detector tests due to lack of jewelry. Another involved singer Cassie, who reportedly held in the hotel against her wishes. Additionally, prosecutors no longer filed charges, DIDDY ordered the rapper Kid Cudi’s car to explode because there was no direct evidence to support the claim during the trial.
Although the government retained core sexual trafficking allegations, it chose to remove certain factors, including assistance and teaching, although it did not clarify which parts would be excluded from jury deliberations.
In the same letter as the court, the prosecutor requested specific jury instructions, including clarification of prior consent for sexual conduct, does not rule out the possibility of a later withdrawal, and payments would not negate forced labour in trafficking cases. They also urged the court to notify jurors that coercion of sexual trafficking can occur without physical restrictions or exchange of commercial sexual acts.
The trial is expected to be conducted under the revised scope of allegations and the trial continues.
